Castor is a lancer in the Legio X Equestri, an educated accountant born of the patrician Junii of Mediolanum (modern day Milan). A child prodigy, he was a classmate of Planus, Titus, and Skipio, as well as Skipio’s former lover.

Actus is a swordsman in the Legio X Equestri, a mason and career soldier born of the wealthy merchant Ursii of Novum Comum (modern day Como). He is Skipio’s second in command, but also a childhood friend who is hopelessly in love with Skipio’s sister.

Drusus is a horseman in the Legio X Equestri, a patricians son born of the horse-breeding Valerii of Mediolanum (modern day Milan). He is Titus’s second in command and Castor’s new lover.

Gauda is a superintendent in the Merchant Marine Guild, born in the uncolonized Roman frontier, where the northern dessert meets unexplored jungle in Kuku (modern-day Gao). A child orphaned by war, he was raised in Rome by a soldiers family.
